Transfer news: Milan show interest in United's Vidic

Malta Independent Saturday, 29 June 2013, 16:18 Last update: about 14 years ago

AC Milan are keen on Manchester United captain Nemanja Vidic.

The Italian giants see the 31-year-old Serbia international as the ideal partner for their incumbent centre-back Philippe Mexes, The Mirror reports.

Vidic, who has been at in Manhester since 2006, suffered an injury-ravaged campaign last season, playing only 23 times in total, after seeing his 2011-12 season ended in the December by a knee problem.

Milan believe United are set to sign a replacement - Benfica's Ezequiel Garay has been heavily linked with a move to the new Premier League champions - and are ready to move for Vidic if it is shown he is not part of Moyes' plans

Chelsea's midfielder Marko Marin will spend next season on loan at Spanish club Sevilla, the BBC reports.

The 24-year-old German, who signed for Werder Bremen for £7m last summer but missed the start of the season through injury, made just 16 appearances.

Marin's first-team chances might have been further limited by the arrival of Andre Schurrle

The loan deal is "subject to the completion of legal documentation and a medical", said a Chelsea statement.

Mark Hughes has made his first signing as Stoke manager, with defender Erik Pieters joining from PSV Eindhoven for a fee of 3.6m euros (about £3m), the BBC reports.

The 24-year-old, capped 17 times by the Netherlands, has signed a four-year deal after moving from the Dutch club.

Hughes said he wanted to build a well-balanced squad over the summer.

"While Erik is predominantly a left-back, he has also played for his country as a central defender, so he gives us other options," he said.
