Transfer news: Internacional deny Saints, Spurs move for Damiao

Malta Independent Monday, 1 July 2013, 09:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

Internacional have rejected claims Southampton have stolen a march on Tottenham for Leandro Damiao, insisting they have received no concrete offers for the striker, Metro reports.

The Saints were linked with a shock £18million move for the long-time Spurs target, but Internacional’s director of football Luis Cesar Souto de Moura says that despite interest from a number of clubs, he doesn’t expect the Brazilian international to be going anywhere.

‘Nothing has come, clubs from everywhere sound him out all the time, but we don’t even consider that anymore, as there are too many enquiries but offers never come,’ he told ‘Esporte Interativo.

‘I am working with the idea of keeping the player, so that he doesn’t leave.’

Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas tried to sign the 23-year-old during the last transfer window, but admitted the dead broke down due to complex contract clauses.

‘It wasn’t something we just did on the last day of the window. Third party ownership makes it difficult to do,’ he insisted.
