Transfer news: Man Utd could treble Alcantara wages

Malta Independent Tuesday, 2 July 2013, 11:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Thiago Alcantara could see his salary trebled should he join Manchester United this summer, Metro reports.

The in-demand Barcelona midfielder is David Moyes’ main transfer target ahead of the Scot’s debut season in the Old Trafford dugout and Moyes is willing to pull out all the stops to get his man.

The 22-year-old, who captained Spain’s Under-21 side to European Championship success last month, has found his first-team opportunities at the Nou Camp limited, leaving Manchester United positive they can agree a deal.

Alcantara is expected to fetch a fee of around £15m and the reigning Premier League champions are believed to be prepared to offer the youngster three times what he is currently earning in Spain to convince him to quit his boyhood club.

Bayern Munich, however, could make life difficult for Manchester United, with the Champions League holders thought to be preparing a late bid to take Alcantara to Germany.
