Valletta FC found little trouble in disposing of FC La Fiorita of San Marino in Serravalle last night, winning comfortably 3-0.
Denni Rocha dos Santos (2), and Ian Zammit scored the goals for Valletta who led 1-0 at the interval.
Valletta dominated proceedings for most of the match but it took them 30 minutes to take the lead through a Denni Rocha dos Santos penalty after a handling infringement in the area by a La Fiorita defender.
Then it took the citizens just four minutes into the second half to increase their lead with a beautiful goal. It was Dyson Falzon who set Dos Santos with a well taken pass. The Brazilian controlled the ball well before side-footing it into the net past helpless goalie Montanari.
Valletta maintained the initiative and after La Fiorita had penalty appeals turned down by the Albanian referee, it was again Montanari who denied City another goal saving a close range shot from Briffa.
Marino made his only save on a Rinaldi header on 73 minutes, but after Falzon missed a good opportunity to score in the 80th minute, it was substitute Ian Zammit who netted the third goal in added injury time.
Valletta played in the following formation:
Marino, J. Caruana (S. Bajada), I. Azzopardi, Y. Camilleri, JL Vandelannoite, L. Dimech, R. Fenech, R. Briffa, H. Barry, D. Rocha dos Santos (I. Zammit), D. Falzon (L. Cremona).
