Bundesliga club Hoffenheim has signed French striker Anthony Modeste from Bordeaux on a three-year contract.

The 25-year-old was on loan at Bastia last season and also has played for Blackburn in the English Premier League.

Hoffenheim coach Markus Gisdol says they have "had Anthony in focus for a long time."

Hoffenheim finished 16th in the 18-team Bundesliga last season. It salvaged its top-flight status by winning a two-leg playoff against Kaiserslautern, the third-place finisher in the second division.
