Smart Supermarket becomes first Maltese retailer to adopt eReceipts

Malta Independent Monday, 15 July 2013, 13:04 Last update: about 13 years ago

Malta’s popular supermarket, Smart Supermarket, will this week take a technological lead over its competitors as it becomes the first major retailer in Malta to adopt the revolutionary new eReceipts technology.

The eReceipts technology is provided by eReceipts International Ltd, a company chaired by Lord MacLaurin, who as CEO of Tesco oversaw the successful introduction of the Clubcard. The innovative software enables Smart Supermarket to generate electronic receipts (eReceipts) that are sent direct to a customer’s cloud based account (accessible at www.smart.com.mt).

The technology is an additional function to Smart Supermarket’s existing loyalty scheme and allows customers to “Shop Smarter”.  Customers will never have the hassle of storing a paper receipt again and will be able to analyse their spend according to Smart Supermarket’s product categories - an unbeatable tool for family budgeting.

eReceipts International’s CEO Andrew Carroll praised Smart Supermarket for their vision saying: “As the home of our international operations Malta is a key territory for us and it’s a huge vote of confidence to our system to have the island’s largest supermarket adopting our technology.”

We are currently in negotiations with other innovative Maltese retailers and look forward to expanding across the island. The more that join the better the customer experience!”

Mark Elroy Ciantar, Director at Smart Supermarket said: “Smart Supermarket has always been a leader and an innovator and the adoption of eReceipts technology ensures we are providing our customers with the very best and most useful shopping experience.  It is very important for our customers to be able to track where they spend their money and this service, which will be free to them, will allow customers to shop smarter.”
