Malta Independent Tuesday, 16 July 2013, 17:57 Last update: about 13 years ago

The designs of the first IT building of SmartCity Kochi, a joint venture between the Government of Kerala and SmartCity®, were recently unveiled this month. Together with SmartCity Malta, SmartCity Kochi forms part of a network of interconnected business townships across the world. These townships are developed and managed by SmartCity®, the international business parks arm of Dubai Holding, which seeks to replicate the astounding success witnessed by the 11 business parks across 5 sectors in Dubai. These business parks attract 50,000 knowledge workers every day.

Located in the southern Indian State of Kerala, SmartCity Kochi marks the expansion of the SmartCity® global network as it commences construction next month. While each SmartCity® operates as its own community, townships around the world function as a global network. Igniting connections and promoting growth, this network allows for the creation of new jobs for knowledge workers, establishes a multinational foothold for knowledge businesses and opens exciting new markets where companies can expand.

Abdullatif AlMulla, CEO of SmartCity® said, “We are proud to be launching the construction of SmartCity Kochi and to be expanding our international network of townships. The first building will have 4 floors on an area of 600,000 square feet and will be a LEED platinum-rated green building. Like SmartCity Malta, SmartCity Kochi is designed to be an international live-work-play business township with localized practices where knowledge-based companies, education institutions, professionals and entrepreneurs operate in, connect and benefit from the network.”

“A thoughtful environment together with an intelligent infrastructure, a responsive support system and an enthusiastic partnership with the Kerala Government, will facilitate success for India’s knowledge-based companies. SmartCity Kochi will create substantial employment and nurture the country’s economy to the next level of growth,” Mr AlMulla continued.

Moreover, the growing SmartCity® network will connect business townships in Europe, the Middle East and the Indian Subcontinent. Companies setting up at SmartCity Malta will have the opportunity to connect and network with companies located in business parks in the Middle East and India.
