Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 July 2013, 16:01 Last update: about 11 years ago

The University of Malta’s Department of Arts & Languages in Education will be offering a Master of Education (M.Ed.) course in Italian Education as from October 2013. This M.Ed. is a three-year part-time course, which includes taught components, for a credit value of 30 ECTS, and a 60 ECTS dissertation. In the first part of the course, students will be given the opportunity to further their knowledge of aspects related to Italian language, linguistics, literature and culture, and their implications on teaching and learning Italian as a foreign language, in the light of recent developments in the fields of applied linguistics and language teaching methodology. Skills will be directly transferable to the educational context, to the benefit of secondary and post-secondary students of Italian. The knowledge acquired will also be useful should those who complete the course be involved in curricular decisions, examination setting and marking and language policy making.

The research component of the course will provide opportunities to delve into aspects pertaining to the current situation of Italian in schools: this is especially topical, because of the major socio-linguistic and socio-cultural developments of the past years, which have had an impact on the exposure to the Italian language in Malta.

Applications for this course are open until 23 July, and may be accessed through the following link: http://www.um.edu.mt/apply. For further information one may refer to the University course finder (http://www.um.edu.mt/courses/) or contact either Prof. Sandro Caruana ([email protected]) or Dr. Mario Pace ([email protected]).
