Transfer news: Tottenham chase 'new' Cristiano Ronaldo

Malta Independent Wednesday, 17 July 2013, 14:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Tottenham are believed to be chasing Real Betis youngster Alvaro Vadillo – dubbed the ‘new Cristiano Ronaldo’, Metro reports.

The 18-year-old has reportedly caught the eye of Spurs boss Andre Villas-Boas after a string of impressive performances for his club last season, having broken into the side in December.

And according to the Mirror, there’s a strong chance Villas-Boas could be lining up the Spaniard as a potential replacement for in-demand Gareth Bale.

Even if the Welshman doesn’t leave White Hart Lane this summer, he is unlikely to remain at the club beyond the end of next season, especially if Spurs fail to qualify for the Champions League again.

And Villas-Boas may see Vadillo as a potential long-term replacement and could elect to move for the Real Betis starlet this summer, rather than risking him gaining more admirers over the coming season.
