Over the coming months, Bank of Valletta will be gradually introducing an additional layer of security to online purchases by means of the BOV 3D Secure service that is being offered in liaison with VISAä and MasterCardä.
“We will be communicating with all BOV Cardholders directly as we gradually roll out the BOV 3D Secure service with our BOV Visa cards and BOV MasterCard. The added security layer will provide greater peace of mind and added security when using a BOV Card to effect payment for on-line purchases and requires no registration for those customers who have provided the Bank with a valid mobile number,” said Ivo Camilleri, Executive Head Electronic Banking at Bank of Valletta.
When making purchases online, at participating merchants, customers will be requested to authorise the transaction by means of a pass code which will be sent to them on the mobile number that is registered at the bank, thus securely authenticating the transaction.
Cardholders will be receiving a personal letter from the bank explaining the process and benefits of BOV 3D Secure.
Marco Scicluna, Executive Head, IT Systems at Bank of Valletta said, “This is another initiative by BOV to improve the security and convenience of card holders. We are delighted to announce that we have successfully acquired, tested and certified the systems to enable us to integrate this new level of security for the benefit of our customers who shop online. The service has been designed to integrate seamlessly into the online shopping experience of our customers, and is part of the bank’s customer centric strategy - a holistic strategy intended to satisfy emerging customer trends and preferences,” concluded Mr Scicluna.
Cardholders who have not yet provided the bank with a valid mobile number may do so by calling the Bank’s Customer Service Centre on tel: +356 2131 2020, following which the cardholders VISA and MasterCards will automatically be registered to BOV 3D Secure. Alternatively, customers may also call at any of the bank’s network of branches.
