Tottenham will ignore any attempt by Manchester United to sign Gareth Bale, the London Evening Standard reports.

New United manager David Moyes and executive vice chairman Ed Woodward want to kick-start a new era at Old Trafford, following the departure of Sir Alex Ferguson and David Gill, by making a major signing and Bale is one of their targets.

They have been linked with a £60million bid but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy will reject all offers, just as he did with Real Madrid. The Spanish club have given up the fight until next year, while Spurs are still looking to secure the Wales international on a new deal. 

Woodward has returned from United’s pre-season tour early to work on a transfer but it is believed his priority is Barcelona midfielder Cesc Fabregas.

But the Daily Star reports that United are ready to offer £60m in an attempt to take him to Old Trafford, and Tottenham last night refused to comment on whether an official bid had been made.

Spurs are desperate to keep hold of their star player, and chairman Daniel Levy has made it clear he would reject all advances for the player.

But Starsport understands the brilliant winger is interested in a move to the Premier League champions.

And that could put him at odds with his club if United step up their bid to land their man.
