GRTU wants solution on CVA Valletta system

Malta Independent Saturday, 20 July 2013, 09:27 Last update: about 12 years ago

The small and medium sized enterprises chamber, the GRTU, said it is consulting all business operators in Valletta to arrive at the best advice it can give to the government about the controlled vehicular access (CVA) to the capital.

The system is not giving good results, it has been operated wrongly and there is widespread dissatisfaction with it, it said.

The CVA had been introduced because parking spaces were previously all taken up in early morning by employees who work in the capital, leaving hardly any room for shopowners or people who wanted to do shopping.

The argument is not about the system, but about how the CVA is operated, the GRTU said. And it is not the CVA operators who decide on the fees to be paid, but the Malta Transport Authority, that is, the government, it added.
