Transfer news: Martinez pours cold water on England switch

Malta Independent Wednesday, 24 July 2013, 12:00 Last update: about 14 years ago

Jackson Martinez has poured further cold water on rumours that he could be set to leave Porto for Tottenham or Liverpool this summer, the Daily Express reported.

Martinez has been linked with a move to the Premier League ahead of the new season, and Napoli and Borussia Dortmund are also thought to be interested in the Colombian striker.

Spurs and Liverpool were initially put off by reports that Martinez was set to sign a new contract at Porto, but were given hope when the Portuguese club were slow to sign the 26-year-old attacker to new terms.

At the time, Martinez's Portuguese agent, Luis Manuel Manso, was very careful to stipulate that any new contract would not necessarily preclude a move by saying he did not want to "turn Jackson into an inaccessible player."

Speaking to A Bola Manso added: "We want to renew his contract but keep more or less the same conditions. I don't know for how many more years, we will only know after we all talk."
