Daniel Xerri was awarded the Terry Furlong Prize for Research by the National Association for the Teaching of English.

He received the award at the NATE 2013 Conference in Stratford-upon-Avon. NATE is one of the largest and most influential English teachers’ associations in the UK, promoting standards of excellence in the teaching of English while supporting teachers’ professional development.

The association provides teachers with access to current research, produces a range of publications in collaboration with major academic publishers and organises national and regional conferences.

Mr Xerri was awarded the research prize in recognition of the academic quality of a paper he had delivered at the previous NATE conference. The paper has just been published in the peer-reviewed journal English in Education.

Mr Xerri is actively involved in researching English pedagogy and his contributions have appeared in a variety of international journals, books and professional publications. He teaches English at the Junior College and chairs the EFL Monitoring Board.

The EFL Monitoring Board will shortly be embarking on a research project aimed at exploring English proficiency in various areas. Mr Xerri and the rest of the Board share the view that empirical evidence is the necessary foundation for policymaking.
