Manuel Pellegrini is set to take Manchester City’s spending through the £100million barrier this summer, the Mirror reports.
Attacking quartet Fernandinho, Jesus Navas, Alvaro Negredo and Stevan Jovetic have all arrived at City, with Pellegrini keen to add a defender before the transfer deadline.
Real Madrid’s £15m-rated Pepe remains Pellegrini’s top target, with the City boss having indicated the club’s willingness to spend even more to reclaim the Premier League title and make an impact on the Champions League.
“The club has spent money on important players, like Stevan and Negredo,” said Pellegrini.
“But we must remind you that last year here there was Mario Balotelli and Carlos Tevez.
“So we had to replace two very good players with another two very good players.
“We have the whole month of July and some days of August to finish completely the squad.
