The Royal Malta Golf Club, celebrating its 125th anniversary this year, has chosen Swiss Luxury Watch manufacturers, Omega as its official timekeeper.

Purpose-built Omega wall clocks will be strategically placed in and around the clubhouse in Marsa so that golfers will be able to tee off on time seamlessly, without interrupting each other. Large clocks have been mounted on highly visible red stands so they can be spotted easily by players.

Omega has kept time for some of the world’s most prestigious sporting events, including 25 Olympic Games. The watch brand has particular significance in the golfing world and has a long history of actively working to promote golf the world over. The Swiss manufacturers have been involved in tour and tournament sponsorship for years and are responsible for the on-course venue timekeeping at all Professional Golfers Association (PGA) of America events, including the renowned PGA Championship and the Ryder Cup when it is held in the United States. 

The RMGC carefully manages a timetable throughout the day with which members book their slots (called tee times) to gain access to the first tee box (the beginning of the first hole) on the golf course.

Players tee off at intervals of ten minutes in summer and 12 minutes in the winter. With such a short time slot it is understandable why accurate clocks are needed to ensure players start on time and do not clash with other golfers.
