Sirens Ritter Sport   8

Neptunes Emirates  15

(0-2, 3-3, 2-5, 3-5)

It was a low key encounter with Neptunes returning to winning ways after their defeat by Sliema.

They seemed to be holding back at first with Sirens having Alex Attard to keep them in contention. That was until the interval as afterwards, Neptunes were more their usual selves and, with Steve Camilleri regaining his scoring touch, they eased away from their adversaries to run up a better scoreline.

This win puts them alongside San Giljan at the top of the standings but the Saints have a game less.

Sirens had Arpad Babay missing with his place taken by young Federico Cimarosti. Charles Merten deputised for Georg Debono.

Tamas Molnar gave the champions a double lead in the opening session both from man ups and Steve Camilleri added another in the next period; but then up came Attard with a brace for Sirens taking them just a goal behind.

Neptunes replied with a couple of Steve Camilleri goals but Attard was on target once more for Sirens and at the interval Neptunes were on a low 5-3 advantage.

After the break, it was a different story. Timmy Agius Ciric and Camilleri extended Neptunes’ lead before Zak Mizzi grabbed a Sirens goal. Sean Gravina netted again for Neptunes with Cimarosti scoring on his debut for Sirens. Molnar made the score 10-5 for Neptunes before the end of the session.

Neptunes went on with their scoring in the last quarter with Molnar Ciric and Camilleri strikes. Attard scored another for Sirens with a response from Neptunes’ Camilleri.

Marc Grech and Attard once more hiked up Sirens’ score and the game ended with a Steve Camilleri penalty throw.

Neptunes, with four goals in eight man ups, had Camilleri on a total of seven goals and Molnar netted four more. Sirens were on three man ups scoring in two of them. Attard scored a nap hand for them.

Valletta United        15

(0-4, 2-2, 2-5, 0-4)

Valletta celebrated their fresh championship victory with a solid win over the Gozitans.

The latter answered well after they went heavily behind early on even though they missed a penalty throw. But then Valletta got going once more and swept completely clear of their opponents after the interval.

The last period was worse for Otters who had no reply to further Valletta strikes as the Citizens honed up to their KO final against M’scala in two days’ time.

Otters had Alex Borg in lieu of Stefan Xerri and Valletta included Jean Carl Farrugia instead of Nicky Bonello Ghio.

The Citizens failed in their first man up but converted the next three. They had Milos Korolija and Simon Cachia on hat tricks. On the contrary, Otters score once in their four man ups and free scoring Ivan Vuksanovic was limited to two goals also missing a penalty.
