Luka Modric wants to become Manchester ­United’s star summer ­signing.

Modric is ­prepared to refuse to be part of Real ­Madrid’s world record package to sign Gareth Bale in the hope United bid for him.

United boss David Moyes has suffered a frustrating summer.

He is yet to fully give up on Cesc ­Fabregas, but has been forced to consider Modric as one of a number of ­alternative targets.

Moyes remains keen on signing Fellaini from Everton, but, ideally, wants two ­midfielders ­before the transfer window shuts.

Spurs would like to re-sign ­Modric, either as part of Bale’s expected switch to Real or independent of that transfer.

But ­Modric, 27, is ­understood to have no intention of moving back to White Hart Lane, as he waits to see if Moyes firms up interest in him with an official bid.
