Two passengers sustained grievous injuries and another was slightly injured in a crash involving a public bus and a truck today, at about 5.45am, in Triq Wied il-Ghajn, Zabbar.

The public bus, a King Long, was on its way to Marsascala when it collided with a truck, a Ford Iveco, parked by the left-hand side of the street. Upon impact, the truck was dragged into a garage door.

Although the bus driver, a 29-year-old living in Naxxar, was unhurt in the accident, three of the seven passengers on board, all women, were conveyed to hospital, where it was established that two of them, a 75-year-old living in Zabbar and a 57-year-old living in Fgura, sustained grievous injuries. The third passenger, a 65-year-old living in Zabbar, was slightly injured.

Two of the uninjured passengers were a 31-year-old Eritrean living in Hal-Far and a 33-year-old Italian living in Trapani.

The two remaining passengers left the scene before the police’s arrival.

Meanwhile, the truck’s owner, a 59-year-old, and his 37-year-old son, both of whom live in Xghajra, had distanced themselves from the vehicle when the crash happened.
