Arch rivals Neptunes and Sliema meet in KO final today

Malta Independent Tuesday, 20 August 2013, 13:00 Last update: about 11 years ago

Arch rivals Neptunes Emirates and Sliema Frank Salt Real Estate meet again this evening at the Tal-Qroqq Pool in the final of the Bank of Valletta KO.

The match, as usual, will be keenly contested by these two giants of the local game. And both will be eager to register a victory not just to add another trophy in their cabinet, but also to save their season, especially Sliema.

The Blues, in fact, lost the Winter League title to Neptunes after the latter finished on an equal number of points, but with a better goal difference.

Moreover, Sliema started the League campaign in miserable fashion and only recently have they managed to return to their best form, even beating the same Neptunes by a whisker in their recent encounter.

That defeat almost means the end of the Balluta Bay side’s hopes of retaining the summer league title.

In fact, at present, they lie at the top along with San Giljan, but the latter have a game in hand. If they win that, they will go three points ahead with the San Giljan-Neptunes clash to be played on the final day, that is, Saturday week.

Their only chance to retain hopes of retaining the league title is that they eventually force a decider against the Saints if they win that final clash.

Another large crowd is expected to throng the Pool at Tal-Qroqq this evening.

Prior to the match, there will also be the First Division KO final where newly crowned champions Valletta will be the favourites for a memorable double when they face Marsascala.

Programme

Tal-Qroqq Pool: 6pm First Division KO final Valletta-Marsascala; 7.15pm, Bank of Valletta KO final Sliema Frans Salt Real Estate-Neptunes Emirates.
