Bayern Munich's newly signed Spain midfielder Thiago Alcantara will be out for an expected seven weeks after sustaining an ankle injury.
The Champions League winner and Bundesliga champion says Thiago tore a ligament in his right ankle and will have surgery on Monday.
Thiago was injured in the second half of Bayern's 2-0 Bundesliga victory over Nuremberg on Saturday.
The Spaniard is expected to miss the upcoming Bundesliga matches against Freiburg, Hannover, Schalke and Wolfsburg, the start of the Champions League group stage and the German Cup second-round game against Hannover.
Bayern also won the German Cup last season for an unprecedented treble for a German club. Thiago arrived in the offseason from Barcelona.
