Guitar sensation Tessarollo to perform live at St James

Luigi Tessarollo, one of the most prominent figures in the Italian jazz scene, will be performing live alongside Maltese guitarist Marc Galea at St James Cavalier on Saturday 14 September.

The duo will play arrangements for two guitars from the Jazz standards repertoire together with original compositions.

A guitarist and composer from Turin, Tessarollo has performed at the most notorious US and European Jazz Festivals.

He has also collaborated, often in permanent projects, with some of the most prominent Italian jazz musicians and with numerous foreign artistes including Lee Konitz, Slide Hampton, George Garzone, Barry Harrys, Larry Schnider, Bob Gullotti, Hal Stein, Bob Porcelli, Douglas Yates and Matt Wilson.

Euro-Institute of Music Director Marc Galea graduated with an LLCM TD Diploma from the RGT (Registry of Guitar Tutors) in 2005. He is a session guitarist and professional guitar tutor. For two consecutive years, in 2008 and 2009, Marc was nominated for the internationally-acclaimed RGT Guitar Tutor of the Year Finalist Award.

Marc has worked with several top-notch musicians such as guitarists John Wheatcroft, Phil Hilborne, Gordon Giltrap and John Mizarolli as well as former Whitesnake and Black Sabbath bassist Neil Murray.

This is will be the fifth time that Luigi and Marc are playing together after previous sold out concerts at University on Campus, MITP and St James Cavalier Music Room.

Master Class sessions

A Guitar Master Class will be held at the Euro Institute of Music between Friday 13 and Saturday 14 September.

Classes will be divided into two groups: the first session will be for beginners/intermediate level, whilst the second class will be aimed at advanced players.

1st Intermediate Session (Friday 5pm till 6.30pm)

·         How to study Jazz and creating your own sound

·         Must know tunes and forms

2nd Intermediate Session (Saturday 9.30am - 10.30am)

·         Various styles and genres associated with Jazz (Blues,Funk, Bossa )


1st Advanced Session (Friday 6.30pm till 8pm)

·         Typical and representative tunes of the jazz literature with( containing) most used ,standard harmonic sequence

·         Jazz improvisation, Harmony, rhythm and scales

2nd Advanced Session (Saturday 10.30am - 11.30am)

• Playing outside by using tensions
 

Classes will be kept as small as possible for participants to be able to interact more individually.

Price is €25 for both days. This event should appeal to all guitar enthusiasts and not just Jazz enthusiasts.
