Everton have rejected an improved offer of £36 million for Marouane Fellaini and Leighton Baines as they continue to rebuff Manchester United’s advances, the Express reports.
The bid, tabled earlier this week, sees Fellaini priced at the value of his £23.5m buy-out clause, which expired on July 31 but kicks back in on January 1, and Baines at just over £12m. It was immediately turned down, as was an initial £28m joint bid two weeks ago, despite both players wanting to leave.
Everton have drawn up a contingency transfer plan with Blackpool’s Tom Ince, Wigan midfielder James McCarthy and a loan deal for Manchester City’s Gareth Barry on manager Roberto Martinez’s wanted list in case former boss David Moyes continues his dogged pursuit.
Belgium midfielder Fellaini is closest to the exit door with Everton’s stance that he is not for sale likely to be tested should they receive an improved offer by Monday.
