Hibernians consolidated their top spot yesterday with an easy and convincing 5-2 win against newly-promoted Vittoriosa Stars. The Paolites 4-2 after an entertaining first half and then scored another goal in the second half to kill all the hopes the Stars might have had of getting some- thing positive from this encounter.
When Rodolfo Soares opened the scoring after just five minutes, it was already downhill for the Paolites who added a second goal from a penalty converted by Clayton Failla. And four minutes later, it was 3-0 when Edison Luis dos Santos found the net. The Stars pulled one back on the 28th minute through Marcelo Pereira, but the Paolites were again awarded another penalty in the 41st minute.
Failla again made no mistake from the spot- kick to make the score 4-1. The first half entertainment did not stop here as the Stars were capable of scoring a second goal through Oscar Guerrero just before the interval. Andrew Cohen scored the fifth and final goal for Hibernians on the hour.
