‘Dialogue between Music and Technology’ will show how composers transform the piano’s sound through the electronic medium. It will illustrate the different methods and techniques they use. This concert-lecture will guide the audience through a music and scientific journey through each musical work.

Pianist Tricia Dawn Williams will be presenting a selection of works for piano and electronic music in collaboration with live-electronics performer and sound engineer Giorgio Nottoli from the music conservatory of Santa Cecilia in Rome.

The programme will include ‘Risonante Notturno’ a live electronics piece by Giorgio Nottoli, a composition for piano and computer processed audio called ‘Traces of Spirit Whispers’ by Steve Antosca, and live electronic compositions entitled ‘Half [Way] by Domenico De Simone and ‘Aitsi’ by Giacinto Scelsi.

The performance will take place at the Music Room, St James Cavalier Centre for Creativity, during the second edition of Science in the City on Friday, 27 September at 7pm, 8.30pm and 10pm. Free admission.

‘Dialogue between Music and Technology’ is one of the interesting activities happening during Science in the City as part of EU-wide event Researchers’ Night which aims to enhance public recognition of researchers and their work. On 27 September, Valletta will be filled with art and entertainment all linked to science: street art installations, graffiti art, music concerts, art exhibitions, children’s shows, live experiments, talks, tech areas, and much more — a memorable night which is fun, interactive and free.

The Science in the City festival is supported by the EU FP7 Programme and the Malta Arts Fund.  The event is coordinated by the University of Malta, in partnership with the Chamber of Scientists, the Parliamentary Secretary for Research, Innovation, Youth and Sports, Valletta Local Council, MEUSAC, Malta Council for Science and Technology, Malta Council for Culture and the Arts, PBS, Where’s Everybody, Valletta 2018 Foundation, Notte Bianca, iCreatemotion, Microsoft Innovation Centre, Vodafone, St James Cavalier and RIDT.
