Malta-based IT company 2X Software, which specialises in cloud computing, is marking its eight anniversary amid plans to grow further and increase its workforce.

Parliamentary secretaries Edward Zammit Lewis and Stefan Buontempo were present to launch the company’s celebrations, and the former stressed that the government was committed to continue encouraging the local IT sector to innovate and grow, and to retain highly qualified employees.

“It is important for us to identify ways to attract more students for ICT courses. There is a great need for specialists in ICT, and as a government, we have started working to strengthen the sector,” Dr Zammit Lewis said.

To this effect, he pointed out that through the Malta IT Agency, the government strengthened its iStudent programme placement by introducing the concept of mentoring.

MITA, he added, was also addressing the rapid changes in the sector by working on the restructuring and reorientation of the eSkills Alliance to better serve the needs of today’s industry.
