Youth team for BRNO

Malta Independent Tuesday, 10 September 2013, 09:31 Last update: about 13 years ago

A team of 15 young athletes accompanied by two officials departed for BRNO, the Czech Republic, on Sunday afternoon to participate in an international athletics competition.

The Malta Amateur Athletic Association has been participating in this competition for a number of years now and its athletes have always obtained excellent results in spite of the tough competition from various teams coming from all over Europe. Most of the teams represent clubs or schools.

The local Youth National team will be representing the National Athletic Association which is why the local young athletes proudly wear the word Malta on the back of their track suits.

The association believes that the participation of young athletes in such an international event is the best way to motivate its promising young athletes who usually grow up to represent Malta in major international athletic competitions.

The team is made up of the following athletes:

Girls: Nicole Attard Glivau, Anthea Camilleri, Catriona Cuschieri, Nadine Gatt, Francesca Mercieca,  Janet Richard, Kayley Riolo, Andrea Schwaiger  and Laura Sammut.

Boys: Nicholas Cassar Torregiani, Nasim Dardouri,  Miguel Grixti,  Luke Mizzi, Luke Scicluna, Stefan Pace Parascandalo  and Josef Pace Parascandolo.

The officials accompanying the athletes are MAAA Council members Pierre Xuereb and Stephen Spiteri.
