New SNOUT travel App is a world-first for Malta and further enhances the island’s tourism industry

Palazzo de Piro in Mdina saw the launch of a vibrant new generation of travel app on Thursday 12th September. The innovative new SNOUT app for Malta delivers an absolutely new travel experience.  Gone are the days of thumbing through an out-of-date travel book.  The SNOUT app gives the visitor accurate and relevant information that’s designed to enhance their stay, with an essential compendium of what’s happening and where it’s happening on the islands. This includes everything from what local festivals, exhibitions or events are happening and the nearest wi-fi hotspots, to details of all the best promotions in nearby food and drink outlets.

The driving force behind this latest SNOUT app for Malta is local business woman, Mariella MacLeod.  “This SNOUT App will deliver a rich, new and interactive visitor experience.  It means visitors will be able to Seek, Find and Share their travel experience of Malta’s cultural gems and the app will give them useful and accurate information about what’s happening, and where it’s happening via their iPhones and Androids.   So for the first time, visitors will have all the information they need to plan their visit, create their own holiday itinerary and really enjoy every element of their stay, and they will also be able to share their experiences on line, all from within the app.”

Dr Gavin Guilia, Chairman of The Malta Tourism Authority, was a guest of honour at the launch.  He commented: “Technology continues to empower consumers and service providers in ways which were unthinkable just a few years ago.  Our success and prosperity depend on how well we can keep up with these changes and take advantage of the benefits they bring. In this regard, we welcome and support initiatives such as the one taken by Mariella and her Company.  We wish them success and look forward to more such products aimed at enhancing the visitor’s experience of the Maltese Islands.”

As Mariella explains, the app is easy and fun to use.  “Visitors can download it for free, and simply purchase off-line mapping whenever suits them, so no more unwelcome roaming charges.  By selecting any outlet, service or event and placing it in their ‘favourites’ function, they can build their own fully interactive itinerary around the island.  The app uses the most advanced geo-location tracking available, so visitors can tell exactly how near they are to points of interest.  At the heart of the SNOUT App are unique audio visitor experiences.   For a minimal charge, these will guide our visitors along a creatively and engagingly designed trail, bringing historic destinations very much to life.”

Northern Irish digital specialist Julie McNeice is the brains behind SNOUT’s new generation of interactive apps.  “It is very exciting to be in Mdina today launching Snout Malta – the first in a range of highly innovative travel apps that will shortly span the Globe, from New York, Paris to Tokyo.  Malta is a wonderful destination, combining a rich cultural heritage with a vibrant social scene, all within a compact and accessible area.  We wish Mariella and her team every success.”
