The Mdina Grand Prix classic car event will be held this year between 7 October and 13 October. As late summer beckons the arrival of early autumn, The Mdina street track, set in the idyllic countryside beneath the imposing bastions of the old capital city, will be host for the third successive year, to the Mdina Grand Prix. Promising a magical weekend of classic car racing over the weekend, various cultural and other activities are also being organised for the participants and their guests over the preceding days, incuding guided tours of the capital city Valletta, Mdina and the Three Cities, and a tour of the sister island of Gozo. Among other celebrity VIP guests at this year’s edition we will also have in our midst Edd China and Savina Confaloni as main judges.
The following is an overview of the 2013 programme which encompasses all of the Foundations planned activities:
Sunday 6 October 0900hrs to 1500hrs : Scrutineering at Smart City Malta
Monday 7 through Thursday 10 October : Overseas participants arrive in Malta, and will be entertained with cultural visits, including guided tours of Valletta, the Three Cities, and a boat tour of the Grand Harbour.
Thursday 10 October: This year, Chopard will be adding a touch of glamour to the internationally esteemed Mdina Grand Prix by hosting the opening party on October 10 at the Edwards, Lowell boutique in Spinola Bay, St Julian’s.
Friday 11 October 1100hrs to 1500hrs: Mdina Glass Concours d’Elegance
Following the fantastic success of the Mdina Glass Concours d’Elegance last year, this glamorous event will once again be held at the Cathedral Square in Mdina. The Island’s best classic cars will be joined by our overseas participants, and a festive atmosphere is guaranteed, with live classical music and owners in period attire.
Saturday 12 October 0900hrs to 1600hrs: In the morning practice takes place on the 2.2 kilometre track below the Mdina bastions. The exciting circuit includes fast straights mixed with demanding corners. Participating vehicles will be timed in the afternoon to determine their best performances and hence the winner of the event.
