An Alitalia pilot successfully made an emergency landing in Rome's Fiumicino airport late on Sunday the right landing gear of the airbus he was flying failed to open.
All 151 passengers on the flight from Madrid were unharmed. The pilot alerted the control tower of trouble with the plane's right landing gear at around 8.30pm.
The pilot landed the plane shortly after 9pm using only rear and left landing wheels. When the plane hit the tarmac it inclined heavily on the right wing, and came to a stop on the outer edge of the runway.
