During Discover University 2013 on 10 November everyone is invited to follow the many exciting activities taking place between 10am and 5pm.

Take a Library tour, meet an author, see ceramists at work, have a peek into the world of illustration – all this can be done at the University’s Main Library. This is the only academic library in Malta catering for multidisciplinary academic and research areas, providing research material for over 12,000 students and approximately 1,500 academic members of staff.

It’s not just about books on shelves. During the Library tours, which will be held at 11am, 1pm and 3pm, you can explore the different areas which make up a library. The librarians will describe the collections that are found in various departments. They’ll talk about the process of a book from purchasing until placing on a shelf. You will learn about the range of librarian jobs, which are “invisible” yet so important.

Two authors will be speaking about their writing experiences to the visitors after the Library tours. Here you’ll have the opportunity to learn about being an author, about what inspires authors, about books in Maltese and more. You’ll also be free to ask questions.

Two exhibitions are also scheduled during Discover University. One of them will be held in the Library foyer in collaboration with S-Cubed (Science Students Association) while the other exhibition will be held by the Archives Department in the Library.
Just outside the Library, Paul Scerri and his art students will be demonstrating works in clay. You can see the artists working live on their projects, speak with them and ask them all the questions you’ve been waiting to ask.

At the Library Seminar room there will be an art session dedicated to giving children and young adults tips on illustrating. University students reading subjects in Media & Communications will be engaging children in drawing activities in a fun environment. Papers, colours and pens will be provided. The sessions will be held at 10am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm.
There will also be a bake stand outside, in front of the Library building, with all proceeds from the sale to be donated to Puttinu Cares.
