Bank of Valletta’s green efforts get acknowledged with the Conservation Award for Sustainable Development.

The 7th Edition of the Environment Award for Enterprise was organised by the Cleaner Technology Centre. The aim of these awards is to acknowledge the commitment of enterprises and organisations in favour of sustainable practices. These awards recognise their efforts in reducing their environmental impact in their processes and practices.

The award was presented by Hon Mr Leo Brincat, Minister for Sustainable Development, the Environment and Climate Change.

Upon receiving the award, Anthony Sammut, Executive Head at Bank of Valletta said, “Bank of Valletta looks upon itself as a corporate citizen of the Maltese society within which we operate. The green stakeholder is as important as all the other stakeholder, and this award recognises our efforts in acknowledging and taking the environment into account on all levels, strategically and at operational level on a day-to-day basis.” He also acknowledged that this journey is not an easy one and requires a cultural change, but also concluded by saying, “If everyone is a bit more conscious, there will be a positive multiplier effect. This is the message we try to instil in our people and we hope that other organisations will follow suite.”

Anton Pizzuto, Director at Cleaner Technology Centre spoke highly of the achievements of this year. "While maintaining its leadership position in its sector of activity, Bank of Valletta has shown in a tangible manner that business entities can decouple economic growth and development from environment pollution. Their sustained efforts to minimise the impact on the environment in the areas of energy consumption and water conservation are to be emulated and this led to their being presented with the Conservation Award for Sustainable Development. The Management and staff the Bank of Valletta should be proud of this achievement as it shows a high level of commitment in Corporate Social Responsibility."
