Pembroke College introduced co-ed for the current scholastic year. As from next September, a decision has been taken to introduce the same set-up in the Gozo College. It would have been wiser to observe it for at least five years to see how this system worked before introducing it elsewhere.

With regard to Gozo, who took this decision, the Minister of Education or the Gozo Principal? Have its disadvantages been properly analysed? Have the heads of schools, the MUT and above all, the parents been consulted? Has the teachers’ increased responsibility been taken into account and how they feel about it? Or was this a case of “I say so and so be it”. Not a very democratic decision, I’m afraid.
