The Kalypso Ensemble at the Manoel

A great start to 2014 will be the concert given by the Kalypso Ensemble on Thursday 9 January Kalypso Ensemble at Sala Isouard in which they will be performing an eclectic programme of musicwith works by Maltese composers Ruben Zahra (Grinta), Pawlu Grech (Tetrad 1), Carmelo Pace (Sextet) as well as by Webern (LansamerSatz) and Shostakovich (String Quartet No.8).

The Kalypso Ensemble is a chamber music group settled in Malta, formed by musicians  from Italy, Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary and Malta: KlaraNazaj and Giulia Tavano on violins, Ina Georgieva on viola and AkosKertesz and Frank Camilleri on cellos. They have an extensive repertoire ranging from Baroque to Contemporary.

All its members are currently musicians with the Malta Philharmonic Orchestra and have played widely abroad, from South America to China, from Finland to United States of America, from Japan to Morocco, in prestigious orchestras, namely, Orchestra Sinfonica di Roma, Orquesta de Extremadura, Italian Youth Orchestra, Orchestra “L. Cherubini”, Sofia State Opera, LimburgsSymfonieOrkekest, Het ResidentieOrkest, Hungarian National Opera, Mediterranean youth orchestra, Brno Philharmonic. 

In Malta they are active as chamber music performers too and have taken part in prestigious festivals such as the BirMiftuh International Music Festival and the Victoria International Music Festival in Gozo.
