I would like to bring to the attention of the public the sorry state of Triq Is-Sajjied in Marsalforn. This is a planned road and should have been opened up ages ago for the convenience of the public.
A number of developments have been allowed to abut on this road and a condition attendant on development is that the developer creates a road in front of the development.
To my surprise, not only were the developers allowed to develop the property without following the road but were also allowed to block it. The Planning Authority took enforcement action and the matter was duly brought before the Environmental and Planning Review Tribunal. The tribunal decided that the illegal development had to be removed.
It is surprising that after such decision, no further action has been taken by the authorities. The position has been allowed to stagnate to the evident prejudice of the road, the decision to allow development on the road, the evident interest in having this road open to the public, and the decisions of review tribunal, yet the authorities still do not find it proper to effectively enforce the enforcement notices they themselves issued.
