New technologies have all the same purpose – to get better functional results for the patient.
 “Our precision – your mobility” …this is the guiding principle of the first International Knee and Hip Center Malta, a centre of excellence for computer assisted knee and hip replacement, using the latest technology in orthopaedic surgery, which celebrated its public blessing and official opening on 4th December by bishop H.E. Mons. Charles Scicluna and the German Ambassador Klaus-Peter Brandes.
Before the official opening Mons. Sciluna blessed the new clinic and its founders Dr Ulrich Rebers (Medical Director and CEO) and Xenia Lorenz-Rebers (CEO) from Germany with the words: “….bless these men and women who are dedicated to helping and healing the sick and bless as well this place and guide them in their labours…”
Ulrich Rebers welcomed all guests, especially the Ambassadors from Germany, from the Netherlands and from Tunisia as well as representatives from the Ministry of Health, Dr Josie Muscat the chairman from Saint James Hospital and the staff from Saint James Hospital, Livelife rehabilitation centre and Care Malta and other official guests.
Dr Rebers pointed out that the International Knee and Hip Center Malta was designed as a highly specialized centre for computer assisted knee and hip replacement and for custom made joint replacement, representing cutting-edge technologies far beyond known standards.
The implementation of German medical navigation technology for knee-replacement –  the first in Malta and the introduction of 3D hip planning for hip replacement will increase medical and technical potential in Malta.
Furthermore Dr Rebers hopes to set up a co-operative initiative not only with the private health sector but also with the public health sector, where he sees demand for joint replacement.
The German Ambassador H.E. Klaus-Peter Brandes congratulated International Knee and Hip Center Malta and was impressed at how fast the Centre developed from the public signing with the private health sector in October this year to its opening.
The Ambassador expressed in his speech that “made in Germany” stands for high quality especially in medicine. “As a German representative I am proud to participate at this opening and to see German investment and technical development growing in Malta”, he emphasized.
The official opening and blessing was framed by a professional musical program performed by Sofia Vasheruk and Andrey Nesterenko, two internationally known pianists.
