iSmart is a newly launched EU-funded project of which Acrosslimits is part of the consortium. The iSmart project aims to digitally expand the dyslexic pupils’ memory. To reach this objective the project aims at developing ICT tools that enable transfer of text and other study materials from the classroom to a smart device that the student and parents will have access to.

Interactive learning approaches and classroom smart boards, combined with personal light yet powerful tablets, will facilitate learning in the classroom. It will greatly enrich the learning possibilities and motivation for students who find their learning life difficult due to the complications presented due to dyslexia.

The iSmart project will be achieving this with the use of smart ICT-based tools (such as smart phones, tablets and smart boards) for all levels of formal, non-formal and informal learning exercises. Studies show that many of the learning differences experienced while reading, writing, spelling, accessing the curriculum, learning vocabulary, improving phonic skills and assisting recording and presentation, become a smaller problem when ICT is used.

Some dyslexic learners also have co-ordination, sequencing and organisational difficulties. This may affect their handwriting, cause learners to produce less work or take a lot longer than expected. Once they have mastered the keyboard, a portable hand writing device can often liberate them, allowing them to concentrate on content rather than process.
