I was among the privileged few who attended the meeting and seminar organised this week at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs. Dr Raymond Xerri, director for Maltese Living Abroad, delivered an excellent and erudite lecture on the Maltese Diaspora.
The interesting brain-storming session on how bonds between Malta and Diaspora countries can be enhanced was most enlightening.
It's a great pity that only representatives of Australia were present. What about those of Maltese residing in USA, UK, Canada, Brussels, etc? These informative lectures should be open to the public in general. We all have relatives residing abroad and it's good to know how we can improve our communications, especially in the case of emergencies. We need to get the message across because the possibilities are countless.
