One might accept the notion that the scope of the EU is that of harmonising trade and enhancing the financial ties between member states. However, as is so often the case, things are not always as they seem.
Delving deeper into the system, one has to examine the power structures within Brussels in order to have a complete view of the actual direction in which Europe is heading, rather than the advertised notion.
On the first tier, you have 766 elected MEPs representing millions of Europeans, who raise and discuss issues according to their perception and political inclinations. The President then decides which of those issues are to be put forward to the Commissioners, who have the final say and establish directives. The latter form the third tier within the political body of the EU: they are the 28 members who form the European Commission.
This is the political realm of the EU but not the only one. The most overlooked entity is actually the most powerful one – the European Central Bank. The role of the ECB is that of regulating the money supply within Europe. A majority share of all VAT collected by member states goes to the EC and member states have to abide by the EU VAT code which has to be enforced by each and every member state. Therefore, every month, hundreds of millions of euros flow into this financial institution. As its power grows, more political and economic mergers take place – all within its sphere of influence. As Rothschild, the father of modern banking, once said: “Give me control of the nation’s money supply and I care not who makes its laws”.
Thus, as the spirit of Europe becomes more mercantile – increasing regulations and agendas will continue being set by these detached power structures that influence everything else – without the consent of the parliamentary body. The political class in Brussels is slowly realising its helplessness – its lack of clout in the grand scheme of things.
Ironically, this can be compared to our local situation, wherein the wealthy contractors have, time and again, managed to influence and control the highest political and legal entities in our country – as proved by the recent scandals that have been brought to the public eye.
The question is: what agenda is being planned by the very few who control these financial institutions?
It is, of course, hard to say because we are not involved with its machinations, but it is not so difficult to imagine the consequences of a dictate within the EU – the worst case scenario being the establishment of a unified European army, funded by the ECB, (effectively rendering itself as a mercenary force at the whim of its employer or benefactor.)
Is Europe to accept war at the direction of these hidden generals? God forbid this ever happens, but it is not a far-fetched notion, as recently there has been increased talk of the establishment of such an army. Great change happens slowly, all too slowly to notice, but once it takes hold, it is here to stay.
In the light of this dictate, more and more people feel betrayed and disillusioned, as it does not fit in with their original aspirations of a united Europe.
Leaders of member states are feeling helpless as their national sovereignty is being trampled on by the EU, where any decision taken in the national interest can be deemed illegal by the Commission, which has the power to inflict harsh penalties upon a ‘non-compliant nation’.
Every country and region within Europe has its own diverse history, culture and tradition. This globalist force now taking hold within Europe is increasingly impeding and enforcing singular regulations with which all member states have to conform. Member states have their own individual needs and interests, and the globalists – who claim to embrace diversity – are actually threatening it, by establishing protocols that all countries have to follow.
This is a trend which will inevitably increase its pace in the near future. This insensitive and alien EU is inherently mercantile, having no concern for the pillars that have made Europe strong throughout the ages, namely: freedom of speech, the preservation of tradition and the advancement of culture. This signals the urgent need for strongly opinionated statesmen, as opposed to dilettantes; the urgent need for visionaries, as opposed to bureaucrats who stand for neither one thing nor the other.
We need true Europeans, patriots representing the regions with a strong link to their respective national identities, rather than career politicians who are void of ideas and political will.
The way forward is cultural – a total instauration from the depths upwards – and no more empty political talk.
Thus, only patriotic politico-cultural movements unifying the people can assure that the nation is safeguarded, and Europe steered into a new and positive direction. People know where we stand, but nevertheless we are always ready to cooperate with any local government for the establishment of a harmonised link between Malta and abroad.
The national interest comes first and foremost, before petty political differences. We go to Europe with this objective in mind.
