Maltese connection in Australian WWII mystery

Malta Independent Sunday, 23 February 2014, 08:00 Last update: about 13 years ago

I am carrying out research related to the loss of the war ship HMAS Sydney in 1941.

In August 2007, your paper published an article entitled “Maltese connection in Australian WWII mystery”. Your article described a Joseph Zammit (possibly from Marsaxlokk) whose father Salvatore Zammit was killed while serving on the Australian Light Cruiser HMAS Sydney in 1941 off Western Australia.

Mr Zammit mentioned his conviction that human remains that were exhumed on Christmas Island in 2006 were those of his father. I share that conviction and am keen to make contact with Mr Zammit (if he is still alive) to know whether he had made progress with identifying his father?

I attempted to locate Mr Zammit via online phonebook but was unsuccessful. If you could please help me contact Mr Zammit (or his family) I would be most grateful.
