Dr George Abela, President of Malta and patron of the Malta Society of Arts, recently presented the MSA’s 2013 Gold Medal and Diploma to Maltese artist Harry Alden, in recognition for his contribution as an artist and art educator. The ceremony was held at the MSA’s premises, Palazzo de La Salle. 

Jessica De Battista, acting president of the MSA, gave a brief introduction and personal recollection on Harry Alden, both as her art tutor and the friendship developed between their families.

The ceremony was highlighted by Prof. Mario Buhagiar’s analysis on Alden’s artistic contribution, which was read during this event. Reference was made to the Society’s important contribution to Maltese art and artists. A short account was also given about the bestowing of the gold medal award during its history, of which Harry Alden is the latest well-deserving recipient.

The programme included jazz music interludes performed by Marc Galea and Alan Portelli. The event was presented by Dorothy Meli.
