What the Funk IV!

Malta Independent Tuesday, 11 March 2014, 18:31 Last update: about 11 years ago

The biggest live music funk party in Malta is set to return with its 4th edition on April 4th, 2014 at Buskett Roadhouse. Over twenty musicians and singers, including a notable brass section and two DJs will keep a crowd dressed for disco dancing the night away.

What the Funk has time and time again proven that although James Brown, George Clinton, Cameo, Tower of Power and Herbie Hancock may be out of the charts, Funk is well and alive.

Now set to become a well anticipated annual event, established musicians Mark Attard and Eric Santucci intend to further establish funk’s role in Malta’s mainstream culture, while acting for a good cause. It is hoped that through mobilising large gatherings, the cultural power of live music can be seen and experienced.

Performers for What the Funk 4 shall include Pawlu Borg Bonaci, Nadine Axisa, Glen Vella, Olivia Lewis, Adrian “ir-Russu” Brincat, Janice Debattista and many others. The event will be hosted by PJ Xerxen.

All profits of the event will be passed on to *Funny Farm Malta*, a horses rescue association. An extensive publicity campaign which will include a number of TV appearances by our participants will help raise awareness of the dire situation Funny Farm is in. To date, they have not found an alternate location for their stables and shall be evacuated soon.

What the Funk is big and loud – just the way a real funk ensemble should be. The band will be dressed to impress by the talented Janice Briffa. The crowd is also encouraged to don retro outfits. Once again, a professional photographer will be capturing the performers and its fantastic audience.
