The Immaculate Conception School in Tarxien, which forms part of the St Jeanne Antide College, recently organised Eco Day, an event to promote eco-friendly measures with the students. Each class participated in various activities which aimed at raising awareness about waste separation and recycling methods.

The students participated in hands-on activities to learn how to separate recyclable waste, used plastic bottles and newspapers during a craft activity. For the last two scholastic years, the EkoSkola committee has been meeting up during lunch breaks to plan and carry out its work. “EkoSkola’s aim is to increase students' awareness of development issues in the context of the environment. In this way, students become more aware of such issues in their daily lives. The committee has been working very hard over the last few months and so far everything is developing positively. The committee has worked on various projects including awareness speeches throughout the school, fundraisers, healthy living activities and the Batterina campaign. The school also took part in several activities outside the college, such as visits to Xrobb l-Ghagin and WasteServ. The committee is run entirely by students. Thanks to our enthusiasm and dedication we hope to make a difference at school,” said Stefania Abela and Angela Aquilina, Eko-Skola co-ordinators at the Immaculate Conception School. Mrs Margaret Abela, Malta’s First Lady, visited the school during the Eco Day.
