The police seem to have solved the string of cat killings in Mosta and are expected to arraign a person as early as today, sources told The Malta Independent.

The police have called a press conference that will be held at the police headquarters at 3.30pm.

Investigations are in an advanced stage and a 40-year-old man is believed to be behind the crimes that span over several months.

The animals were found nailed to crosses in several places in Mosta, starting in 2011, with the last incident taking place in February.

The first incident took place on 16 October 2011, with the animal found affixed close to the residence of Frangisku Buhagiar, who had been charged with the 1999 murder of his sister and sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The man was questioned by police on the crimes involving animals. Since then, other animals were found affixed to wooden crosses in parts of Mosta, many times on the night between 16th and 17th days of different months.

But latest incident took place on 3 February this year.

The Malta Independent last month published footage showing the cat killer committing the last of his crimes. CCTV footage helped the police in their investigations, with the footage as uploaded on this portal being seen by over 93,000 people in just a few days.

The footage is being re-loaded with this story.
