The objective truth!

“The remains of more than 15,000 babies were incinerated as ‘clinical waste’ by hospitals in Britain with some used in ‘waste to energy’ plants.

“The bodies of thousands of aborted and miscarried babies were incinerated as clinical waste, with some even used to heat hospitals, an investigation has found.

“Ten NHS trusts have admitted burning foetal remains alongside other rubbish while two others used the bodies in ‘waste-to-energy’ plants which generate power for heat.”

Fiction you might think? Nonetheless, this news item was carried in a respectable British daily (The Telegraph) last week. One might say shocking and a real waste of human life! How does a democratic society arrive at a point of committing such atrocious behaviour and waste so many human lives! The answer lies in seeking to make a false god of freedom and rights. In the final analysis, it is doing what we want rather than doing what is good. In doing what we want, which we covertly camouflage within the principle of the greatest happiness for the greater number, we in effect may subvert the good in itself. We in effect create a false god, a god formed in our own image and ego. Modern society is reaching a stage where one needs to be allowed to do what one wants, in the name of a right which is anything but objective. We are making our subjective selves the measure by which we decide what is right or wrong behaviour, what is good and what is bad!

When John Locke divulged his concept of natural rights, which he ascribed mainly to life, liberty and property, right after the British civil war, he himself stated that in the most stoic of traditions these natural rights in effect reflected natural law. Today, natural rights have also incorporated positive law together with natural law. However, we are now moving to the point where natural rights are disposing of concepts of natural law and keeping only aspects of positive law enacted in the name of a majority. Disposing of natural law simply means disposing of right reason and basing the concepts of rights simply on the whims of a subjective majority.

When the former President of the Republic, Dr George Abela, signalled that he did not intend signing the present Bill currently before Parliament, and in the process enacting legislation providing ‘de facto’ marriage for homosexuals and their ‘equal’ rights in the adoption of children, he might in effect have been indicating to the State that it was going beyond the boundaries of objective legislation based on an objective good and recta ratio as defined by society far before the existence of the State itself. In effect, the State is in the process of abrogating and defining what is good in itself objectively by its own self and subjecting this process to the whims of a majority. The State is therefore in the process of subjectively redefining marriage.  It is in effect making itself a god! An arrogant one at that! Josef Fuchs, in one of his later books thinks aloud about God and the concepts of the objective good. Does God want things because they are good in themselves or are they good because God wants them? If God wants things done according to an objective good, ergo the Ten Commandments, then the good becomes the objective in itself! Therefore, this may mean that even God, whose nature is absolute goodness itself, stops short of doing even what he may want, as God in essence cannot contradict his own very nature and being. God in effect cannot do whatever he wants, if this counters his own essence. So even God has limitations before the objective good! Even God has placed limitations on his own actions!

And here we now have man in his magnificent splendour and magnanimity arrogantly bestowing upon himself the final conquest of recta ratio, by using his freedom to redefine by a subjective majority in Parliament, the objective concepts of a basic good which is marriage. We have dared go one better than God himself, who in recognizing the essence of his nature has conformed himself so to say, to the objective good, while we have made ourselves go beyond the limitations that God himself subjected himself to in eternal law. We are disarming society of the concept of the objective truth. Nothing else is sacred, everything has become subjectively secular. The secular State is now not only functionally secular. It has now also become ideologically secular as it seeks to sacrifice the concept of objective truth to the false gods of a subjective majority and in the name of human emotions. The ideologically secular state has in fact now made a god of its own very self. Nothing is objective anymore! It is ardently seeking to break the first commandment. You shall have no other gods before me!
