PN leader Simon Busuttil confirmed that the PN in government had forgotten all about Gozo when he said that the PN had worked to commit 10 per cent of EU funds for Gozo, and that PN MEPs would work to have Gozo recognised as a region, Labour MEP candidate Charlon Gouder said.
It is not true that the PN government had worked to obtain 10 per cent of EU funds for Gozo because in fact only eight per cent of the money allocated to Malta had been spent there. A study promised about Gozo’s special needs was not needed, because the money allocated to Gozo was more than enough, Dr Busuttil was saying, Mr Gouder added.
He said Gozo should have been accepted as an island region and benefit from measures addressing its specific disadvantages, but the PN government had failed to convince the EU of this.
