Transport Minister Joe Mizzi tonight explained that the price charged for bendy buses will be €460,000 if they are scrapped. Speaking in parliament, he said that the 81 buses were sold to TriHills Heavy industries established the price at €601,200 but would be reduced to €460,000 if the vehicles are scrapped. He told Nationalist MP Toni Bezzina that the government had received three bids for the sale of the buses, which were withdrawn from the roads in August after a series of fires. The buyer was obliged to remove all vehicles from the property of Transport Malta by May 7 - which is next Wednesday. The minister stressed that while it was up to the buyer to decide what to do with the buses, they could not be used on Maltese roads. It was reported when the buses were sold that they would be shipped to Sudan. Mr Mizzi said that as long as the buyer stuck to the stipulations of the contract, there was no issue. He also said the government did not pay Arriva for the buses and that any funds that come back into the coffers are pure profit.
