Details on voting by patients in hospitals

Malta Independent Monday, 5 May 2014, 14:36 Last update: about 12 years ago

The Health Division and the Electoral Commission have issued a number of rules regarding vioting by patients in hospitals.

Those who are residing in hospitals by 6pm on Monday 19 May will vote inside the same hospitals on Thursday 22 May.

Those who will enter hospitals after that date will vote on Saturday 24 May in their respective towns and villages. so too will patients at Boffa Hospital.

It will be the doctors under whose charge they are who will decide if the patient can go out to vote.

Patients can either use the transport services that will be laid on by the hospitals or get their relatives to take them to vote. In the latter case the relatives must first ask permission in writing to the administrator of the hospital. The relatives must then show the written permission to the security manning the gates. It is preferable if relatives go for their patients between 1pm and 5pm.

Patients who insist they want to vote even if the doctor had given a negative advice must sign a declaration they are doing so of their own free will.
