Malta’s Eurovision song ‘Coming Home’ by Firelight was ranked number eight by iTunes yesterday.
Rankings are continuous and change every day.
The professional jury from the 36 participating countries in fact voted the Maltese entry into the fifth place – after Austria, Holland, Switzerland and Hungary.
A government spokesperson told this newspaper that the latest Eurovision figures have revealed that Malta did really well when it came to the jury’s vote.
It also emerged from a report in the online edition of The Guardian that the UK’s expert jury – headed by former Fame Academy judge Carrie Grant – had Malta's entry Firelight in first place on average, slotting the eventual overall winner, Austria's drag artist Conchita Wurst, in third.
Organisers also revealed that controversial Polish song, We Are Slavic, featuring a group of scantily clad young woman dressed as milk maids, was the runaway favourite of the British public.
But the UK’s expert jury ranked it last in 25th place.
As for Firelight, it placed 23rd through televoting, however the fact that the jury placed Malta fifth was a form of consolation for the band.
The final score from each country is weighted 50/50 between the public vote and a five-member panel.
