As part of FTIAS Corporate Social Responsibility programme designed for the year 2014, on the 17th May a group of 7 employees teamed up with MEPA represented by Professor Victor Axiak from the University of Malta and carried out a Marine Litter Visual Survey at Pretty Bay Birzebbugia. The aim of this visual survey was to contribute to the EU Marine Strategy Framework Directive with the objective of achieving and maintaining Good Environmental Status (GES) of the EU’s marine waters by 2020.
“Apart from being particularly zealous about the Maltese Islands, we feel obligated to do our part as well by participating in events and projects that support genuine social causes. Our organization is fully supportive of similar activities, and due to an ingrained culture we have built during the years, , we are extremely passionate about participating in such initiatives, in order to minimise the negative impact on Malta’s environment. Whatever we go in for, we go in with an unrelenting passion and enthusiasm to make it the best experience we possibly can.” Marouska Frantz, General Manager at FTIAS explained.
Our employees had the chance to collect data on the litter found at Pretty Bay in Birzebbugia, within a sampling unit of 100 meters long and 20 meters wide. Upon completion of the survey, the litter was than collected and disposed of appropriately. This was also a perfect opportunity for our employees to realise how important it is to keep Malta’s beaches tidy for us, and the generations to come.
